In case you haven’t heard of them before, it has become quite popular for couples to ask their guests not to use their phones or other electronic devices during their wedding ceremony, hence the title unplugged wedding ceremonies. This is not done maliciously to prevent guests from taking photos or videos. On the contrary, an unplugged wedding ceremony can be a really polite way to ask all the guests to be fully present and in the moment.

These types of wedding ceremonies are gaining traction for a few good reasons.

Reason #1: You will get better pictures if you have an unplugged ceremony.

What guests doesn’t see (from a photographer’s point of view) is that phones can easily take away wedding guests’ natural expressions. Not only that, but what could have been a great memory of a loved one’s smile or tear, can easily be blocked or hidden by their own (or someone else’s) phone. And the biggest reason: you don’t want to be that person with your hand fully extended in the middle of the aisle while the couple exists do you?

We’ve seen plenty of weddings where devices totally ruin the moment or block an amazing angle of a photograph. As a photographer during the ceremony we really can’t do anything about it.

Reason #2: Your guests will be able to be more present with less distractions

Instead of every guest trying to get that instagram worthy shot to post, they can be focused on experiencing your love and hearing your commitment to each other. Those guests will also not be distracting for others who are trying their best to listen ( AKA your parents ).

You can assure your guests that there will be many instagram worthy pics to post once you get your sneak peaks back.

So do yourself a favor and plan on an unplugged wedding ceremony! I guarantee you won’t regret it.
